|
This course covers material on electrical safety as it relates to the emergency response environment. A dictionary definition of the word emergency is a serious situation or occurrence that happens unexpectedly and demands immediate action. It is a condition of urgent need for action or assistance (www.dictionary.com, 2000). Emergency responders are those individuals who have a duty to respond in emergency situations. There are many different types of emergency responders. Some of the positions that immediately come to mind include: law enforcement officials, firefighters, paramedics, medical first responders and police officers, just to name a few. Some emergency responder positions are remunerated work positions, whereas others are volunteer positions.
The goal of emergency responders is to sustain life, reduce pain and to minimize the consequence of injury, fire, sudden illness or other dangerous situations. They may be called to duty in a variety of situations and circumstances. The "Electrical Safety for Emergency Responders Course" focuses upon how electricity might impact the jobs that emergency responders are trying to do.
